9 Tricks to Make Your Small Living Space at Home Look Bigger
How to Make Your Room Look Bigger
If you are living in an apartment or in a small home, one of the biggest challenges that you’ll face is on how to make your space look and feel bigger that it actually is. So if you feel the need to stretch out in your small space, here are some decorating changes that you can make to create an area that looks and feels larger without tearing down any walls.
1 Clear out unnecessary clutter. Nothing can make any space look smaller and cramped than having too much stuff- unnecessary stuff. Remove unused items such as old stacks of newspapers, magazines, and decorations that you don’t find joy looking at anymore.
2 Let the light in inside your home. Any room will instantly look brighter and larger by adding either natural or artificial light. Remove heavy draperies and open up windows to let the light into the room.
3 User light and air fabrics. Fabrics like sheer can let light pass through the window easily and are not light absorbent. For table covers, bed skirts, and slipcovers, choose fabrics that are lightweight and are embedded with simple designs.
4 Use light and soft colors. Dark colors such as black or blue can make a space look darker and smaller. Light colors, on the other hand, can make a space feel clean, airy and more spacious.
5 Open the way. Furniture and other accessories that are misplaced in a room can block the view and make it difficult for the persons to move around the area. Remove them or rearranged them in such a way that the room looks more spacious and bigger.
6 Use monochromatic color scheme. Contrasting colors tend to break up light and space. Take note that pieces of furniture that matches with the wall color tend to blend with space and are less visually interrupting.
7 Keep plain upholstery. Choose plainly-colored and designed upholstery instead of bold looking, stripes, or printed materials. Also, stick to neutral tones if you can.
8 Install see-through walls. If you can afford to have a glass window or walls, the bigger the chances that you’ll space will look spacious for it tricks that eyes to look farther away.
9 Make use of reflective surfaces. It could be a coffee table with a plated mirror to make the light and space reflect and create a more open feeling. Make sure that the base of the mirror is sturdy enough to support the weight of the glass or mirror.
